What is Freemasonry?
An ancient and honorable fraternity dedicated to the improvement of its members and the betterment of society.
A Brotherhood With Ancient Roots
Freemasonry is one of the world's oldest and largest fraternal organizations, with roots tracing back to the stonemason guilds of medieval Europe. Today, it is a society of men united by a shared commitment to moral and spiritual values — a brotherhood that transcends differences of religion, politics, and background.
Freemasonry is not a religion, nor is it a secret society. It is a society with secrets — a fraternity that uses ritual, allegory, and symbolism to teach timeless lessons about integrity, charity, and the pursuit of knowledge. Its doors are open to any man of good character who believes in a Supreme Being and desires to improve himself and serve his community.
The Three Degrees
Entered Apprentice
The first degree of Masonry, in which a candidate is initiated into the fraternity and introduced to the fundamental principles of the Craft. The Entered Apprentice learns the importance of preparation, humility, and the search for light.
Fellow Craft
The second degree focuses on the importance of education and the liberal arts and sciences. The Fellow Craft is encouraged to pursue knowledge and to apply the lessons of the working tools to his daily life.
Master Mason
The third and highest degree of the Blue Lodge, the Master Mason degree teaches the most profound lessons of Masonry — the importance of faith, the certainty of death, and the hope of immortality. A Master Mason is a full member of the fraternity.
